On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, the Ambassador of Qatar to Ghana, His Excellency Khalid Jabor Al-Mesallam, served as Special Guest of Honour at a commissioning ceremony held at Aveyime Battor Senior Technical School in the North Tongu Constituency.
The event marked the official افتتاح (commissioning) of a newly constructed mosque complex, a six-unit classroom block, and an eight-unit teachers’ bungalow project funded by Qatar Charity. The facilities are expected to significantly enhance both academic and residential life for students and staff of the institution.
The project was initiated through the efforts of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency as well as Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs. His leadership and collaboration with international partners were instrumental in bringing the development to fruition.
Delivering the keynote address, Hon. Ablakwa expressed profound gratitude to the government and people of Qatar for their continued support towards Ghana’s educational sector. He emphasized that the provision of modern classrooms, staff accommodation, and a place of worship reflects a holistic approach to education and community development.
He further noted that the investment would not only improve teaching and learning conditions at ABAST but also contribute to nurturing disciplined and well-rounded students.
The ceremony was attended by local authorities, traditional leaders, education officials, and members of the community, who lauded the initiative as a timely intervention that will have lasting impact on the school and the wider constituency.
The commissioning of these facilities stands as a testament to the strong diplomatic and developmental ties between Ghana and Qatar, as well as a shared commitment to advancing education and social infrastructure. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa,
