Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) remain the backbone of Ghana’s economy, yet they continue to face persistent challenges that limit their growth and sustainability.
As highlighted by Samira Abdul-Azeez (Ms), Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, these challenges are not unique to Ghana but are experienced by MSMEs across the world.
One of the most pressing issues is limited access to funding. Many small businesses struggle to secure affordable financing, making it difficult to expand operations, invest in equipment, or scale their services.
In addition to financial constraints, MSMEs often face limited access to markets. While some businesses have the capacity and products ready, they lack the platforms and networks needed to reach customers both locally and internationally.
Another critical challenge is the lack of technical support and skills development. Many entrepreneurs do not have access to the training, mentorship, and advisory services necessary to improve efficiency, adopt new technologies, and remain competitive.
Addressing these challenges requires a coordinated effort from government, private sector stakeholders, and development partners. By improving access to finance, strengthening market linkages, and providing targeted technical support, MSMEs in Ghana can unlock their full potential and drive inclusive economic growth.
